Little did I know I was creating Art:
I thought it was just a fit of sleep-deprived insanity.
Mona Williams (Mrs. Harrison Williams of the Cole Porter song ‘You’re the Top’), later Mona Bismarck, sketched by Rene Bouche.
When I do this it isn’t half so attractive:
Dear everyone who’s ever met me: No, I don’t want to kill you. Really. My face just does this.
Goin’ home …
More sketches of the Casbah Cafe, including one of the proprietors.
By this point the sun was starting to go down and I didn’t fancy the idea of walking back to the Sunset/Vermont station in the dark, so I packed up.
More patrons of the Casbah Cafe (and the really intense writer, still at it) …
For more on the idea of a sketchcrawl, ask Enrico Casarosa: http://www.sketchcrawl.com/ There wasn’t much crawling on this one; I mainly hid in the back of cafes and waited for interesting subjects to come to me. Like a spider. A spider with a pencil.
More of the really intense writer and people waiting for their artisan coffee …
The man at upper left was involved in one of the most aggressively bohemian conversations I have ever had the privilege of eavesdropping. I don’t remember any of the specifics now, only that I finally had a practical application for the word ‘louche.’
I didn’t scan this page correctly so the top got cut off, but most of it’s here …
Patrons of Casbah Cafe, Silverlake
I found a really comfortable back corner seat at Casbah and ended up staying there the rest of the afternoon.
Someone was writing something really intensely.
I finally budged from Intelligentsia and walked around the neighbourhood a bit. Did more walking than drawing, then was hungry … The person I used to go sketching with only had eyes for Intelligentsia but I’d always thought Casbah Cafe looked like a nice place to visit so I dropped in for a bite.
So many interesting people! Keep on being interesting.
More patrons of Intelligentsia, and one sprinter across the street.
More coffee hounds at Intelligentsia
Silverlake: Hispters, coffee, dogs, and an Asian lady with a puffy vest
